Men who abuse saturated fats have a lower sperm count, a study released today.
Scientists at the Medical School of Harvard University found that sperm count is 43 percent lower and the concentration of sperm (semen volume by sperm count) 28 percent lower among those who eat too much fat.
These results released in the journal Human Reproduction rely on a study of 99 men questioned about their eating habits and who provided sperm samples for analysis for four years.
Experts clarify that such findings must be confirmed in subsequent investigations.
Most participants were obese or overweight, health problem that can damage sperm quality, they said.
Previous research found that people who ate omega-3 fatty acid found in fish and vegetable oils showed improved sperm quality.
