Mexico focuses 77% of cases of A-H1N1 in the world

5,468 patients with confirmed, Mexico is the world's first cases of influenza A-H1N1. It is followed by the United States, far behind, with 932 cases and in third place is Sweden, with 67 cases, according to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the WHO report, with data up to March 3, 2012, in the first two months of the year is the presence of this viral infection in 63 countries, which together have a grand total of 7.095 cases. This means that Mexico focuses 77.06 percent of the world's sick in 2012 and the remaining 66 countries only 22.94 percent (1.627 cases).

In Mexico, Jalisco is a national leader with 554 made official until March 2, 2012 influenza virus A-H1N1 pandemic 2009, bringing the state is the third party with more people infected by this disease worldwide. The state exceeded to 65 countries by the number of laboratory-confirmed patients even more ill post that countries like China (61 cases), the world's most populous nation, France (63) and Canada (53). In fact, total infections in Jalisco is greater than the sum of patients from 58 countries.

This situation speaks unfavorably of health policies followed in both the entity and the rest of the country, to deal with influenza virus A-H1N1 pandemic 2009, even taking into account, as they prefer to highlight the state authorities, prevalence rate (number of cases per 100 000 inhabitants), which is read by far unflattering to Jalisco and Mexico as compared with that of other nations much more densely populated and with negligible or even zero numbers of cases.

"As the epidemic, the disease only P2009 A-H1N1 is happening in Mexico, not the rest of the world in 2012," the Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara "Fray Antonio Alcalde" (HCG), Eduardo Rodriguez Noriega, in an interview with MILLENNIUM JALISCO.

The specialist, who published in scientific publications the evolution of the pandemic of 2009 from this unit care hospital gave more than 2,800 patients this year, said the WHO report implies that the rest of the world there are isolated , a small outbreak, but in Mexico, is again epidemic.

In its report on influenza activity in the world, which is available on the Internet, the WHO notes that "in general, influenza A-H1N1 pdm09 is low, except in Mexico and in a few areas of Canada and the United States. "

- Why in Mexico and Jalisco epidemic recurs again this 2012?

'Because the virus is very capricious. And the virus is looking to the susceptible population and finally found in 2012.

Eduardo Rodriguez felt that this was because the health authorities in Jalisco had expected a major in the state immunity against A-H1N1, either through vaccination or naturally in the previous exposure to the pandemic virus.

The truth is that the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara began to detect clinical cases of influenza A-H1N1 from 15 January. In one and a half elapsed added 700 patients considered to have completed with suspected infection and 130 of them confirmed by laboratory test (MILLENNIUM JALISCO, March 8, 2012).

"These are impressive figures for a hospital, as in the rest of the world there is no hospital that has that," stressed the head of the Civil Hospital of Infectious Diseases.

It should be noted that for reasons of economy and logistics the confirmatory test is performed on all suspected cases. However, Eduardo Rodriguez said that "Jalisco is the most processed samples, hence we have to take more samples processed and be number one."
